Following her early music training at the Juilliard and Manhattan Schools of Music, and then graduation from the Curtis Institute of Music in 1979, Barbara Chaffe joined the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra as second flutist and piccolo player. She was appointed principal flutist in 1985, a position that she currently occupies. Barbara has served as principal flutist of the San Francisco Chamber Symphony and the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, and has held temporary positions for the San Francisco Symphony and the San Francisco Opera Orchestra. Barbara has been a performer at festivals in Ojai, California, Cheltenham, England, and for many years was a member of the Telluride Chamber Players in Colorado.
